The title of the popular book about web usability, “Don’t Make Me Think” by Bob Krug, sums up John Massey’s design philosophy. The SF Bay Area web and graphic designer believes that the most effective design solutions illuminate the message and never overpower it. That belief is manifested in his work.
John has a keen sensitivity to the role of brand in any marketing piece or website. Whatever the challenge, he has the creative talent, marketing savvy and technical expertise to produce communications that exceed his clients’ expectations. His hunger for knowledge has enabled him to quickly master new technologies and transition easily from print to web design.
After graduating from the Rochester Institute of Technology, John served as Design Director of the school’s Publications Department. During that time, he also freelanced for major companies including Xerox, Kodak and Bausch & Lomb, as well as for some non-profits.
As principal of his SF Bay Area design firm, John capitalized on his track record with college and university publications and landed such high profile clients as UC Berkeley, USF and St. Mary’s College. Then he turned his focus to the health care, hi-tech and financial service industries.
No stranger to the world of fine art and photography, John has designed show catalogs, posters, announcements and websites for many accomplished artists and photographers including Wayne Thiebaud, Sylvia Fein, Nathan Olivera, Gregory Kondos, Manuel Neri, Maurice Logan, Robert Kehlmann, Charles Strong, Ruth Bernhard and Aaron Siskind.
